DENON DP-S1 (1993)

DENON DP-S1 (1993)
The DP-S1 from Denon is State-of-the-Art-CD Transport. Just like a Swiss watch it is featuring ruby bearings that guarantee precise and trouble-free operation. The chassis is made of a non-magnetic sand-cast alloy while the disc stabilizer is turned from a solid slab of alloy. The CD mechanism with it's 6mm spindle shaft resting on a ruby bearing was actually built by Victor (JVC) and it can also be found in the Yamaha GT-CD1 and GT-CD2. The laser unit is mounted in a air-tight and light-isolated chamber. All this is secured by a triple floating suspension mounted on a solid slab base. The top cover is motorized and can be remote controlled with a hand-held unit delivered in its own box. The DP-S1 features five digital outputs (coaxial, TOS, AES/EBU, BNC and optical ST) and it was designed to be used in conjunction with the DA-S1 Alpha Processing 20-bit D/A converter unit. Size of the unit: 434x143x400mm | Weight: 16,7kg.

The DAD-001 was a pioneer of separate CD players, and was an impressive machine with excellent sound quality. This was possibly the world's first, separate CD player, Lo-D DAP-001/HDA-001. The processor HDA-001 was equipped with a 16-bit linear DA converter with independent left and right channels. The independent left and right 16-bit linear DA converter Prevents distortion that occurs when switching between positive and negative signals, which is equivalent to "switching distortion" in amplifiers. The laser pickup uses a two-axis orthogonal optical system that eliminates the effects of laser light reflection by a reflecting prism and further enhances tracking capabilities. In addition, tracking errors caused by disc eccentricity are handled by a three-spot method that detects errors by the difference in the amount of reflected light from three spots. It also contains the industry's first 5-fold correction signal LSI-equipped laser. Technical data: Number of channels - 2 channels | Frequency response: 5~ 20,000Hz ±0.3dB | Dynamic range: 97dB | SN Ratio: 98dB (IHFA) | High-frequency distortion rate: 0.0025% (1kHz) | Wow and flutter: Below measurement limit (±0.001% W. Peak) | External dimensions Player unit: width 493 x height 122 x depth 280 (mm) /7.0(kg) Processor unit: width 493 x height 122 x depth 280(mm)/7.5(kg) | Lo-D is a Japanese market name of Hitachi.

PHILIPS LHH1000 (1989)

Picture
World Class Technology, European Excellence, this is the Philips LHH1000 Reference series CD player from 1989. This limited edition Reference Series LHH 1000 is a direct descendant of Philips' broadcast-standard CD recording and mastering equipment. In fact, it's the first consumer model with the professional LHH designation. With this breeding, no wonder the LHH 1000 is of exceptional quality, inside and out. For complete isolation, the transport and D/A converter are housed separately. This dual-chassis design virtually eliminates intercomponent interference and thoroughly dampens vibration. And with coaxial or optical fiber cable connecters between the two units, you get virtually error-free transmission. The result is pure sound with absolutely no distortion. No expense was spared in utilizing the materials best suited for sound. For example, Philips' top CDM-1 transport and all critical chassis components are solid diecast aluminum zinc alloy. Further, the LHH 1000 features Philips' premier creation-16-bit, four times oversampling. And the heart of the separate digital-to-analog converter is Philips' Special Select Grade TDA-1541A-S1 chip, widely regarded as the premier DAC technology. In fact, the LHH 1000 has been "recommended... in Class A of Stereophile's 'Recommended Components' listing". The LHH1000 system consists of the: LHH1001 transport, LHH1002 D/A and LHH1003 remote control. The set was also available marantz CD12/CDA-12.

The XL-Z1000 is the first model in a series of statement (Laboratory Series) CD players from JVC (Victor in Japan) launched in 1990. All the latest technology and the most sophisticated construction was adopted to create this 471x126x403mm unit with a weight no more than 19kg. It was such an advanced design that even the Yamaha GT-CD1 (see below) was using this very same motor from Victor/JVC. The system consists of the XL-Z1000 transport and XP-DA1000 D/A unit.

The CDX-10000 was released in 1987 as part of the Monumental Products Yamaha 10000 Series to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Yamaha’s founding. Forming a four-part system together with the MX-10000 Power Amplifier, the CX-10000 Control Amplifier and the HX-10000 Phono Equalizer, it was intended to handle the demands of all media past, present and future. An exclusive product with all-new design, the circuit configuration was based on the era’s latest High Bit Digital (18-bit operation 4x oversampling digital filter + floating point processing 18-bit operation D/A conversion), with a low-pass filter combining a fifth-order new active filter and complete DC coupling, and a new CD mechanism featuring a thick broadcast studio-quality 4.5mm diameter motor spindle, a linear motor drive pickup with ultra-high speed 0.7-second access from innermost to outermost track, and four motors. The High Rigidity 2-Box Double Chassis housed the digital and analog components independently in separate compartments, bringing together the values of separate units in a single body. It employed a floating structure using elastic mounts and dampers, and the thorough cutoff of external vibration and absorption of internal vibration were in keeping with the trends of the day. The 10000 series was the origin of Yamaha’s characteristic titanium exterior body color still popular today. Dimensions: 475 x 157 x 406 mm (WxHxD) | Weight: 25.5 kg | Original sale price 7000 DM Germany.

The GT-CD1 featured accurate reproduction of micro-level signals and the realization of the high rigidity, non-resonant structure to support it. For ten years after the birth of the CD, Yamaha relentlessly pursued this theme before finally arriving at its ultimate answer, the GT Concept (Gigantic & Tremendous) in the GT-2000 analog player, which realized the idea of using the power of gravity to completely neutralize all vibration. The CD mechanism was made secure by mounting it on a 60mm-thick wooden player base housed in a 3kg circular casing carved from gunmetal casting, penetrating and grounded directly to the electronics unit suspended beneath the player base. The CD mechanism did not feature a clamping system, the 160g weight of the brass stabilizer pressing the disc directly to the spindle, covered further with a 10mm glass lid. Completely eliminating the floating mechanism that had become common in the primitive basic structure of the CD Players up to then, it had a profound impact on the audio world of the time. The DAC converter unit featured Yamaha-developed next generation independent left and right I-PDM system 1-bit DACs. While the transport unit and processor unit were completely separated, the integrated separate structure connected them over the shortest distance possible, and its ingenious external design that beautifully expressed what was inside made it a worthy component to play the lead role in the history of Yamaha CD Players. Size (WxHxD): 435x160(310 lid open)x400 | Weight: 24kg | Original sale price: 7000 DM in Germany
