NEW TAPE RECORDERS FOR THE XXI CENTURY
In 2015 we celebrated 80 years since the World First Tape Recorder was introduced by AEG at the Berlin Radio Fair in 1935. The last new tape recorder model was presented in the early 1980's and they remained in manufacturer brochures until approx. 1990....but they seem to make a comeback. This new generation of tape recorders seems to be mainly oriented to the growing community of tape enthusiast who use them to playback new tapes created from original master tapes or new recordings created on refurbished classic models of 2 track tape recorders running at 15 ips. These are the currently manufactured reel to reel machines ... in Glorious Stereo.

BALLFINGER M 002 P (GERMANY 2020- )
The M 002 P is a pure playback machine and provides a high-end solution. The tape head is directly connected to the XLR connectors, so the machine, similar to high-quality record players, serves as a pure drive and can be combined with various external playback amplifiers. The compact and modern design blends in with the demands of modern interior design. It can also be easily integrated into existing high-end systems. The tape deck can be operated horizontally and vertically. For vertical operation, both a wall bracket and a rack can be ordered for installation. The cable connections are located in a special connection terminal on the bottom of the machine.

METAXAS & SINS T-REX TOURBILLON
(GREECE 2019- )
In horology, a tourbillon (French: “whirlwind”) is an addition to the mechanics of a watch lever escapement to increase accuracy. It was developed around 1795 and patented by the French-Swiss watchmaker Abraham-Louis Breguet on June 26, 1801. The Metaxas & Sins T-RX Analog Tape Reproducer is the first Tape Recorder to use the same concept to absolutely regulate the speed of the tape through the use of an ARM-CORTEX “controller” which synchronizes the 4 Maxon motors (2-reel motors and 2 capstan motors) with the 2 linear ACTUONIX motors which control the “Dual-Capstan” rollers on a fully retractable bar. It is an entirely newly designed professional reel to reel tape location recorder and playback machine that meets and exceeds the highest demands of recording engineers and the most serious audiophiles. It is a tool to record and playback magnetic tape at the absolute highest levels. The T-RX also combines the highest precision “milgauss” stainless steel mechanical parts mounted onto a chassis which is CNC’d from a solid block of aluminium.

THORENS TM-1600 (GERMANY 2020- )
The Tape machine Thorens TM 1600 was developed in cooperation with Duesseldorf based specialist Ballfinger and adds another traditional analogue component to Thorens product range. It’s a half-track quarter inch design with three motors. It handles reels up to 10.5” with speeds of 19 or 38 cm/s. CCIR equalization for most European recordings and NAB for Americas and Asia can be selected. An edit function for single handed operation is integrated. Base for the new machine is the newly developed very compact tape drive from Ballfinger. With only 50 mm height it gives a freedom of design that has not been seen before. Head and capstan motor are placed far from each other to generate a very high signal to noise ratio.
